A Ministry of Social Development office in Masterton has gone into lockdown for the second time this month.
Police said they received reports of a threat made to staff at the Lincoln Road premises around 12pm.
They said staff in the building chose to go into lockdown.
"Police have attended and have made inquiries" a Police spokesperson said.
They said there did not appear to be any immediate threat to safety.
"Police are following lines of inquiry in relation to the individual who made the threats."
Wednesday's event comes just a week after a shot was fired at the building, sparking another lockdown.
A 25-year-old man has since been charged and appeared in court in relation to that event.
Work and Income central regional commissioner Darlene Rastrick said the lockdown of its Masterton site was "precautionary".
"Our staff responded in line with our usual safety procedures."
"We thank police for their support."
