Fire crews were damping down hotspots after a block of shops in the Hamilton suburb of Hillcrest caught fire.
Fire and Emergency shift manager Michael Anderson said they were called to the scene on Masters Avenue at 2.15am on Wednesday
Twelve fire trucks were at the scene at at the peak of the fire, which took more than two hours to put out.
A fire investigator was at the scene.
