A number of schools across the country have received threatening emails, police say.
The emails were sent Friday morning.
"We know emails of this nature can cause significant fear and concern, however it is important to note that so far we have not established any actual threat to any school," police said in a statement.
Ministry of Education staff have been offering support to schools that have received threatening emails.
The ministry said schools and kura should avoid opening suspicious emails and report anything of concern to police.
Police enquiries were under way.
Secondary Principals' Association of New Zealand president Louise Ānaru said it was encouraging and reassuring to see an actual threat hadn't been established by the police.
She said schools had become increasingly prepared for such threats post-Covid.
"We know how to evacuate schools quickly. Our staff have all undertaken training. And first and foremost, we will make sure our young people and our staff are safe in these situations."
"We work closely with police and the ministry, and we just try and mitigate any disruption. But of course, our first thing on our mind is about safety, so we act quickly when we need to."
