State Highway 10 has reopened in the Far North after an Armed Offenders Squad callout near Karikari Peninsula.
Police said a section of the road was closed while officers were looking for a man thought to be at a property at Lake Ohia, next to the highway.
The Eagle helicopter was deployed along with the Whangārei-based AOS.
Police said they did not find the man they were looking for and enquiries were continuing.
Members of the public told RNZ of seeing at least 10 police cars, including AOS and dog units, racing north from Whangārei earlier on Wednesday.
