Lorde has a kōrero with Tony Stamp about her just-released album Virgin.

Featuring singles ‘What Was That’, ‘Man of the Year’ and ‘Hammer’, the album comes four years after the release of Solar Power in 2021.

Gender is a significant theme of Virgin, with Lorde describing herself as ‘in the middle gender-wise’.

Lorde discusses the creative process of making the album and working with producer Jim-E Stack.

14:00 Little Simz returns with album Lotus

Mercury Prize-winning UK rapper has returned with album Lotus. Released on June 6th, the album deals with a falling-out and public split with her producer.

The album features a host of artists including Obongjayar, Lydia Kitto and Michael Kiwanuka.

14:30 Time for walkies: Ringlets on their sophomore record

Auckland post-punk band Ringlets have returned with their second studio album, The Lord Is My German Shepherd (Time for Walkies).

To celebrate, the band will be embarking on a tour of Aotearoa, with dates in Ōhinehou, Ōtepoti, Te Whanganui a-Tara and Tāmaki Makaurau.

It is the follow up 2023’s self-titled debut and features singles ‘I Was on That Roof Once’, ‘Street Massage’ and ‘Heavenly Wheel’.

16:00 The Mixtape: Matthew Crawley

The inimitable Matt Crawley joins Tony Stamp for The RNZ Mixtape.

A promoter, DJ and musician, Crawley cut his teeth on the Aotearoa music scene when he started volunteering at Auckland alternative radio station 95bFM as a teenager.

Crawley began Strange News Touring in 2005 with Rueben Bonner. The company has hosted names such as Lucy Dacus, Wednesday, MJ Lenderman, Jessica Pratt and Ichiko Aoba, among many others.

Crawley was the manager of Auckland’s Flying Out Records until 2022, when he left to immerse himself in the promotion side of things. Before that, he was the entertainment manager of legendary bar Golden Dawn.

He is also the brains behind comedy punk quartet Thee Golden Geese.
